La Fortezza di Acquaviva
A monument symbol and guardian of a history not only local but also regional
The fortress
has an irregular quadrilateral plan, which contains a large central courtyard, also having the same shape, with a well and vertices
reinforced by towers. Once it had to be surrounded by a moat. The highest tower, the Keep, has a circular shape and is about 22
meters high. The Keep dominates Piazza Del Forte, whose houses are arranged in order to form an elegant court. The outside is adorned
with two coats of arms: the Imperial Eagle on a shield (the ancient coat of arms of the city of Fermo) and a cross with an inscription.
The Tower - placed diagonally from the Keep - has a pentagonal plan and is flanked by a small door connecting with the outside,
exclusively for military use. The other two towers are more limited portions: one pentagonal and the other square overlook the other
two sides of the country. The entire complex, dating back to 1200, with two phases of reconstruction (1400 and 1600), was restored
again at the end of the nineteenth century. Today the Fortress of Acquaviva Picena is a recommended location for weddings, events,
concerts and much more, because it is a pride for the entire Marche region, as it combines antiquity, history, past and present.
