A life to give emotion

Nazzareno Tomassetti was born in Cupra Marittima on 10 October 1921. He started his career as an apprentice in the workshops of Cupra until he arrived at the workshop of the Fazzini brothers, where he learned the art of inlay and carving. His passion for art and a chance encounter made him know M° Pauri, who had frescoed the church of San Basso in Cupra, and who became his master painter. The horror of the Second World War, however, came to interrupt the artist's artistic path. In those he suffered imprisonment in a labor camp on the Rhine. In 1945, taking advantage of the Allied ships, he finally managed to escape with other prisoners. His journey home lasted for months and was not without difficulties. In 1952 he met his beloved muse, the Woman who is present in every work and every gesture, Anna, with whom he had four children. The years that followed were dedicated to his work as a carpenter, but in which he always emerged his spirit of artist. Among the founders of the art group L'Arca dei folli, in 1991, exhibited in dozens of exhibitions in Italy and abroad. His statues are the emblem of his native town Cupra Marittima. An outstanding artist and a man with a sensitive and deep soul. All the grandeur and purity of feelings of his soul are reflected in every work. The museum was born as a tribute to a man and artist who spent himself and his whole life to give emotion. It was born thanks to the donation of the house by Master Annunzia Fumagalli who through the legacy of his beloved mother Giovanna Rimoldi made possible the creation of the museum. Born from the constant commitment of his son, the poet Danilo Tomassetti who always believed and accompanied his father in making it known to the world. Born in his Cupra Marittima for the visceral love that tied him to his country.
